Ultimate Beneficial Ownership
UBO declaration for companies, mandatory under anti-money laundering rules.
As an insurance intermediary, we can only enter into a business relationship with companies and persons we have formally identified.
The Belgian anti-money laundering act of 18 September 2017 transposes the fourth European anti-money laundering directive into Belgian law. It requires companies, (international) non-profit associations and foundations to obtain and keep adequate, accurate and up-to-date information on their ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs).
You can find how to complete and sign some of these documents digitally here.
Did you know? UBO stands for "Ultimate Beneficiary Owners" and has nothing to do with the beneficiary clauses in your insurance contracts.
- 1
Life Experts UBO document
Companies are identified using the attached Life Experts UBO document. A UBO document records all the "ultimate beneficial owners" of a company or other legal entity.
- 2
Printout of the UBO register
In addition to this document, we will ask you to provide a printout of the UBO register that is no more than one month old. It must be supplied in addition to the UBO document and cannot replace it. This is a new obligation since 15 August 2020, through an addition to art. 29 of the act mentioned above.
- 3
Copy of proof of identity
Each UBO document must also be accompanied by a recent front-and-back copy or photo of an identity document of each ultimate beneficial owner. For residents of Belgium, this is a Belgian identity card or Belgian foreigner's card; for others, the identity card or international passport.
- 4
Articles of association of the company
Add the articles of association of the company concerned, insofar as they cannot be found via www.notaris.be
- 5
Copy of bank card
Finally, preferably add a copy of the front of the company's bank card.
